New style for close and long-term perspectives on the Earth.

The Swedish Geotechnical Institute (SGI) is an expert authority that works for safe, efficient and sustainable construction and the sustainable use of land and natural resources. We at Byn have had the pleasure of developing the authority’s brand new visual identity. The aim has been to highlight SGI as a modern, innovative authority that drives development for a sustainable society. The result is a down-to-earth identity that draws inspiration from both stone and forest.

The symbol is made up of abstract shapes that symbolize SGI’s activities and core: nature, cooperation and sustainability. The horizontal lines are the soil layers of the ground. The round outer circle shows international cooperation. And the diagonal line conveys the direction, that SGI is an authority that is involved in driving development for a sustainable future.

Typefaces are an important part of building a brand. NEXA is a solid geometric typeface that is part of a large font family. It has a tough friendliness to it that makes it feel both modern and professional, and has a high level of readability.

The new color palette consists of a collection of harmonious earthy tones inspired by clay, stone and forest.

The imagery is genuine and reflects reality. We capture moments from daily activities. People who work all year round, in all weathers, with socially beneficial assignments – for a sustainable Sweden.

Raw surfaces. Stone surfaces in gray and shimmering blue are used as decorative elements.
