What do we want our neighborhoods to look like? When Hyresbostäder and Norrköping Municipality created future strategies for some of Norrköping’s neighborhoods, they asked us at Byn to illustrate the visions.
Hyresbostäder in Norrköping has engaged in local vision work in five of its residential areas, in collaboration with Norrköping Municipality. Through declarations of intent, they have developed goals, strategies and activity plans for how they want the neighborhoods to develop in the long term.
Byn was commissioned to illustrate the various statements of intent.
We started by developing a style to ensure that what we were doing would last throughout the process. The style is playful and open, with colors from the client’s graphic profile.
Based on the texts, we developed a rough list of different words together with the client that could be depicted in the illustrations.
Some examples:
- green and urban neighborhood
- a place for playing and learning about animals and nature
- urban farming
- insect hotel
- green connections to recreation
- connecting with others
- people meeting
- cohesion
Based on these, Byns illustrator Sanna Koosz illustrated the different parts. In this way, we got a flexible set of illustrations that could be used individually but also put together in comprehensive collages that illustrated each district.
It was of course important to populate the districts with Norrköping residents of all kinds – we believe and hope that the residents will recognize themselves!
