Web-based training for Länsstyrelsen i Östergötland
Länsstyrelserna (the County Administrative Boards) need the public’s help to keep tabs on how the Swedish countryside is doing. Byn was commissioned to create a website that both educates and recruits nature observers. The result was naturkunnig.se – which is now being launched nationwide.
The County Administrative Board of Östergötland, in collaboration with four other county administrative boards, commissioned Byn to develop a digital training course aimed at capturing the interest of the nature-loving public and, hopefully, inspiring them to get involved as volunteers.
Naturkunnig.se is a web-based educational platform where anyone can learn about and deepen their knowledge of Swedish nature. You can take the course at your own pace, from anywhere in the world – completely free of charge.
Since its initial launch, the site has been built upon gradually. It now contains a wealth of information on all aspects of Swedish nature, laid out pedagogically with various modules followed by short quizzes to check understanding.
Perhaps the most striking feature is the opportunity to join digital field courses, filmed visits to the beautiful Swedish countryside, led by professional guides.
The pilot period has been very successful, with several thousand people having gone through the training in pursuit of awards. Now, a broad, national roll-out is taking place with the help of all the country’s county administrative boards. This launch has garnered significant attention in a range of media outlets.
Byn worked on the entire launch of naturkunnig.se – from concept and setup to design, content production, and launch. For the technical side of the web development, we got help from our mates at Hamrén Webbyrå, and the lovely digital field courses were filmed by Lavette.
